After the Minnesota Vikings exchanged to select Football Michigan QB JJ McCarthy in the draft of the NFL 2024, the faithful had to wait a full season before they could really see their new QB franchise. A pre-season injury sidelined McCarthy all last season, and he sat down and watched Sam Darnold lead the Vikings to the playoffs. But it is now the time of McCarthy in Minnesota after the Vikings let Darnold walk in free agency.
The Minnesota took care of a free agency to help McCarthy succeed in what will be its first season from the NFL. The Vikings have signed two instant offensive lines, written Donovan Jackson from Ohio State for O-Line help, and even written the Maryland WR Tai Felton.
With additional help via the free agency and the draft, Mike Clay of ESPN predicts a mainly good season of McCarthy in 2025. Clay annual statistics predictionsHere is what he does McCarthy for the Vikings this season.
15 games played, 347 for 537 for 3,705 yards, 26 affected and 14 interceptions. He also has McCarthy carrying the ball 48 times for 206 yards and two affected.
To compare, the recruit of the year of last year, Jayden Daniels launched for 3,568 yards, 25 affected and nine int. Clay therefore thinks that McCarthy could make some “recruit” errors more than Daniels did for Washington last season.
With Kevin O’Connell leading the charge to Minnesota, most of the QB he trained succeeded. There is not much doubt that McCarthy will do well under the advice of O’Connell, as well as a guy like Justin Jefferson to launch.
