The Houston Texans completely reorganized their reception corps of this offseason, which they had to see with Tank Dell to miss all 2025 and Stefon Diggs walking via a free agency.
The Texans added veterans via the free agency and the professions while selecting Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel in the NFL draft, offering CJ Stroud new targets at its disposal.
One of Houston’s main free agent’s additions was the former Kansas City chiefing receiver, Justin Watson, who won consecutive super bowls with chiefs during 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns. He was also a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers team who won a championship in 2020-2010.
The Texans have signed Watson hoping that it would provide a reliable presence and established in a large receiver room that has sorely needed it, but now there seems to be a chance that Watson does not even make the list.
Espn DJ, Ben-Amie, released his Projection of the 53 men’s list For Houston before Cutdown Day later this week, and although he has the Texans who manage six receivers, Watson is not among them.
More specifically, Ben-Amie has Houston while keeping Nico Collins, Higgins, Noel, Christian Kirk, Xavier Hutchinson and Braxton Berrios, another veteran addition that could provide help on special teams, which could give him the advantage on Watson.
Watson recorded 22 catches for 289 yards and a few affected last season. Two years ago, he was a little more productive, catching 27 assists for 460 yards and three scores. It was good for a robust average of 17 yards per hic. He also displayed a penchant to make big games in key moments for Kansas City.
However, Watson has never recorded 500 reception yards in an individual campaign since entering the NFL in 2018, and at 29 years old, its growth room is minimal.
Texans may prefer to keep a younger receiver like Hutchinson, which has displayed enormous potential in the state of Iowa and may not yet have exploited it at the professional level.
