LANDOVER, Md. – Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales is not going to reinstate Bryce Young as the starting quarterback despite the team’s four-game losing streak.
Canales announced after Carolina’s 40-7 blowout loss to the Washington Commanders that Andy Dalton would start in Week 8 when the team travels to Denver to face the Broncos.
“We have to prepare,” Canales said after the match. “We need to watch this film, get ready for the Broncos right now, and Andy will play next week.”
Dalton had a lackluster performance in Carolina’s 33-point loss that dropped the team to 1-6. The quarterback only threw for 93 yards and threw two interceptions. His passer rating of 44.0 was his worst as a starter this season.
Dalton was just part of a listless performance from the entire team. The Panthers defense allowed 421 total yards, including 214 rushing yards to a Commanders team that played without quarterback Jayden Daniels for most of the game.
“We have to put this behind us. But we have to look in the mirror and say, “Okay, why do these games continue like this?” I think that’s the most important thing,” Dalton said. “For us, there’s a lot of little details that we’re going to go back and look at and we’re going to say we need to make certain things happen .
“We have to make sure we have a good understanding of everything we do. When you don’t, it happens like it happened (Sunday). We have to be honest and real and everyone has to do. And I also talk to myself.
Young entered the contest with less than five minutes left in the fourth quarter in garbage time. Young, the No. 1 overall pick in 2023, was demoted after week 2.
