On Tuesday afternoon, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to waive former fourth-round NFL Draft punter Jake Camarda. The former Georgia Bulldogs specialist seemed to be struggling this season so far with the Buccaneers.
Statement from head coach Todd Bowles on punter release via social networks.
Camarda’s season stats thus far were 45.3 yards per punt, which ranked him a disappointing 31st in the league and only five punts landed inside the 20, which which happened to be the 29th in the NFL. It was a decision neither side wanted to make, but it seemed like the timing was inevitable with the Buccaneers looking to contend in the NFC. Tampa Bay has no margin for error moving forward in the season after suffering several devastating injuries on Monday Night Football.
The highly touted former punter is currently looking to shake off the bad momentum and turn his attention to success again. Camarda will be looking for a new home in the NFL and when he is on top of his game, he will be considered one of the best punters in the league.
Releasing Camarda seems rash considering he has a small sample size this season (13 punts) and averages over 50 yards per punt in 2023.
