Bengals injury updates are good news, maybe except for Tee Higgins

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins (5) watches the video board from the sideline in the second quarter of the Week 1 NFL preseason game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Green Bay Packers at Stadium Paycor in downtown Cincinnati on Friday, August 11, 2023. The Packers led 21-16 at halftime.

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor provided key injury updates stemming from his team’s Week 10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

In addition to providing an update on Joe Burrow, Taylor also commented on the status of offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. and wideout Tee Higgins.

There, Taylor said that Brown was “really close” to playing before Cody Ford ended up starting at left tackle. As for Higgins, he said there is “good progress,” but he also doesn’t want to be premature in anything he says.

Brown tried to play through his injury recently before leaving and not returning, so it makes sense that he’s already on his way back.

Higgins is a much trickier subject, however. The quad injury suffered during a Friday practice cost him three games, while another soft tissue injury also cost him games to start the season.

Given Taylor’s comments and the general delicate nature of soft tissue injuries, Higgins taking on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 11 seems like a draw at this point.

While the Bengals didn’t put him on injured reserve, there’s a good chance they’ll rest him in Week 11, which would extend to Week 12 before this conversation picks up again.
