Teddy Bridgewater has the Miami Northwestern Bulls humming, with another dominant playoff victory under their belt – and advancement to the state semifinals in the upcoming 3A high school competition against Cypress Lake. But the old New Orleans Saints The quarterback’s success as a high school ball coach did not come without controversy.
For one thing, Bridgewater is publicly considering a return to the NFL. The new generation of quarterbacks doesn’t inspire much confidence and seasoned veterans with their experience could be in high demand this spring. If Bridgewater feels like he has unfinished business at the professional level, he could retire from the coaching ranks to go after a Super Bowl ring if the right opportunity presents itself.
But for another point? Miami Northwestern is under investigation by the Florida High School Athletic Association for allegedly using an ineligible player. Crosstown rival Miami Central lost nine games this season (including a win against Bridgewater’s team) to a similar offense. No ruling has been made yet, but it could end or invalidate Bridgewater’s season at his alma mater.
Bridgewater has previously expressed frustration with the drama and politics that followed high school football, and a situation like this could be disastrous. We will keep an eye on developments and hope for the best for Bridgewater. He found success and new fans everywhere he played and coached, including in New Orleans, and it would be a great story if he could take his high school team all the way in his junior year as a coach. We’ll just have to wait and see if he can make it happen. As of now, their next match is scheduled for Friday, November 29.
