Quarterback Trevor Lawrence left the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ game last week with a concussion after taking a hard hit. Is Trevor Lawrence playing today against the Tennessee Titans?
Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair was suspended three games for his late hit on a sliding Lawrence, a play that sparked a bench-clearing brouhaha. The QB had just returned to the field after missing the previous two games with a shoulder injury.
The Jaguars fell to 2-10 this season and could play the season without their franchise quarterback. Coach Doug Pederson has dealt with numerous injuries this season, with running backs Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby both missing time and receivers Christian Kirk and Gabe Davis already out for the season.

Here’s what we know about Lawrence’s injury status, his concussion history and whether he plays today against the Titans:
Is Trevor Lawrence playing?
Trevor Lawrence was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, meaning he will miss at least the Jaguars’ next four games. With five weeks remaining and Lawrence already suffering from a shoulder sprain, reports emerged that he would have surgery on his left shoulder, effectively ending his season.
On Friday, coach Doug Pederson confirmed that Lawrence would undergo surgery and said his transfer to IR was more due to a shoulder injury than a concussion. He also said the QB is still in the NFL’s concussion protocol.
“Obviously Sunday’s injury doesn’t help, does it?” » Pederson said. “But it’s just, I think, the right decision at the moment to go ahead and just shut it down and let it completely heal. Obviously you have to clear the protocol first and then tackling the other injury later That’s our main goal right now is to make sure he’s 100 percent, healthy and ready for the offseason. .
Mac Jones will be the starting quarterback in place of Lawrence. The Jacksonville native and former No. 15 overall draft pick of the New England Patriots had his best game as a Jaguar last week, going 20 of 32 for 235 with two touchdowns after Lawrence left with a concussion . Jones is 57 of 92 for 512 yards, those two touchdowns and three interceptions in five games with Jacksonville, and he also ran for a touchdown in his first start on Nov. 10 against the Vikings.
CJ Beathard is Jones’ backup, while former Bishop Kenny star John Wolford was signed to the practice squad on Wednesday.

Late in the second quarter of the Jaguars’ Dec. 1 game against the Houston Texans, Trevor Lawrence came out of the pocket and went sliding. Texas linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair leveled him as he slid, leading into the hit with his forearm, causing Lawrence’s kick to bounce off the turf in Jacksonville.

The blow sparked a brawl between the teams as Lawrence lay on the ground with his arms frozen in the “fencing posture,” a sign of head trauma. Lawrence eventually got back up and was taken off the field. He was immediately ruled out for the rest of the match. He went 4 of 10 for 41 yards and an interception in the game.

Trevor Lawrence Injury History
Trevor Lawrence has started 60 of a possible 63 games since entering the NFL in 2021. He missed two games in November due to an AC joint sprain in his non-throwing left shoulder. During the first half of the Jaguars’ Nov. 3 game against the Philadelphia EaglesLawrence took a big hit from linebacker Zack Baun. He came out of the locker room late at halftime, but finished the game 16 of 31 for 169 yards and two interceptions. He ran for two touchdowns and was sacked twice.
Lawrence didn’t rule out surgery when asked about it last week, and coach Doug Pederson confirmed he would undergo surgery after undergoing IR for his recent concussion. This move would officially end his season, as the recovery time for AC joint surgery is 4-6 months.
The other game Lawrence missed came in Week 17 of the 2023 season against the Carolina Panthers. He was also injured on October 15 of that season against the Indianapolis Colts, but he still started the next game on Thursday night against the New Orleans Saints.
