    KANSAS CITY, Missouri —

Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire has signed with the New Orleans Saints.

In 2019, he rushed for 1,414 yards and 16 touchdowns, contributing to LSU’s national championship team.

He spent the season on the non-football injury list.

The Chiefs waived him to make room for the possible return of wide receiver Hollywood Brown from the injured list.

“For Chiefs Kingdom, it’s all love and support,” he said on X after his release. “The love I received during difficult times will forever be unmatched by you guys! With love!”

Edwards-Helaire was nominated for the Uvalde Foundation Award for Children’s Heroism after protecting a teenager during the filming of the Super Bowl parade in front of Union Station.
