The Houston Texans are preparing for the NFL playoffs next weekend. On Saturday afternoon, they will face the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card round.
While the playoffs are obviously the most pressing matter facing the Texans, another situation could develop.
According to a report from Ian Rapoport, NFL InsiderThe New York Jets have requested permission to interview Houston offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik for their vacant head coaching position.
THE #Jets have submitted a request to speak with #Texans OC Bobby Slowik, the source said. His first request of the cycle after being a hot candidate last year.

Slowik played a major role in the Texans’ turnaround. Losing him would be a huge blow to the offense as a whole, but also specifically to young franchise quarterback CJ Stroud.
Unfortunately, the facts are that Slowik is an excellent coordinator and will become a head coach in the near future. No one should expect anything else.
Whether he becomes head coach this offseason or next offseason, it’s coming. Slowik deserves a chance to become a head coach and the Jets could be a very intriguing destination for him.
It seems likely that New York won’t be the last team to request permission to interview Slowik. There are quite a few openings in the NFL and he could make sense for most of them.
All that being said, it will be interesting to see who the Jets end up choosing to be their next head coach. Names like Aaron Glenn and Rex Ryan have also gained popularity in this coaching search.
Expect to hear more reports about Slowik in the coming days. However, his ultimate priority is to help Houston win in the playoffs. Hopefully this doesn’t become a distraction before the Texans’ first playoff game against the Chargers this weekend.
