The Houston Texans make a surprise reshuffle: the team dismissed the attacking coordinator Bobby Slowik, according to several media reports. The coach of the offensive line Chris Strausser would also have been released.
Slowik, 37, was hired by the team in 2023, joining the staff of head coach Demeco Ryan in his first season. The young coordinator came to Houston after six seasons with the 49ers of San Francisco, occupying various roles throughout the staff.
Slowik’s dismissal comes less than a week after the Texans lost against the Kansas City chiefs during the AFC divisional tour, 23-14. Houston struggled to get a touchdown in the first half of the match, apparently sentenced the team from the start.
Although they have reached the playoffs, the Texans were incompatible in attack throughout the season. The team’s offensive production was intermediary and the second-year quarter-rear that CJ Stroud statistics were down compared to last season. Stroud has also been dismissed 52 times this season, marking problems on line O.
However, it is a surprising decision of the Texans, which improved exponentially during the two seasons since Ryans and Slowik joined the team. Houston went from 3-13 in 2022 to two consecutive titles from AFC South and two consecutive appearances of the division.
Slowik returned to the Texans last season after taking several interviews as a head coach. This year, he has already interviewed for the new York Jets head coach.
