The Lions managed to replace the two coordinators while Campbell hired John Morton to take over for Ben Johnson while the Detroit OC and Kelvin Sheppard were promoted to the defensive coordinator. Sheppard has spent the last three seasons as coating of the Lions seconds. It was initially thought that he would take the role of DC under Glenn in New York, but Sheppard remains in Detroit.

Campbell interviewed several candidates for the post of defensive coordinator, including Larry Fote, who is the coach of the seconds and the coordinator of the pass game of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since 2022. In the end, the team decided to hire organization and give Sheppard its shot.

Meanwhile, the jets hired the veteran coach Steve Wilks as a new defensive coordinator. Wilks was recently the DC of the 49ers of San Francisco in 2023, reaching the Super Bowl LVIII with the team before being dismissed during the offseason. He brings 30 years of coaching experience in New York.

Although the Lions are not concerned about the closure of their Super Bowl window after losing as many staff members, it is imperative that the team obtains its new coach replacements. But given the campbell hiring history, Lions fans should be quite confident that the organization will continue to compete at a high level.
