Broncos planned to write 6’3, former national recruit to replace DJ Jones

Denver’s broncos would love to find an offensive weapon that changes the game in the first round of the NFL 2025 draft, but there are defense places that cannot be overlooked if the right player is there.

The defensive line player DJ Jones will be a free agent without restriction of this offseason and the broncos may want to go with a younger player with a higher ceiling there. Although Jones was effective in 2024, he was 30 years old and broncos must improve on the defensive front. The addition of an athletic and versatile option to a unit that includes Zach Allen and John Franklin-Myers may not be a bad idea.

This is the route Josh Edwards of CBS The team took its recent simulated draft. With the overall choice n ° 20, Edwards stings the broncos to select the defensive line player of the Mississippi Walter Nolen. This is a new choice for the team in simulated projects, because almost all of them, the Broncos are opposed or select security in the first round.

It is important to note that all the simulated draft options familiar for the broncos (Tyler Warren, Colston Loveland, Ashton Jeanty) are all out of the table before n ° 20 in the Edwards model.

Nolen is a name that many may not know, but the selection could pay huge dividends. Here is the taking of Edwards:

“DJ Jones is a waiting agent pending. If Denver is unable to keep it, then the defensive tackle jumps at the top of the list of needs. Walter Nolen has shown an improvement each year and could finally reach its ceiling with Broncos.

Walter Nolen is a dominant race defender and flashes excellence as a pass rusher 🚀

Nolen posted 72 stops when only 5 plated in his university career was missing. He also displayed 67 pressures and 14 bags in total.

    – NFL Draft Files (@nfl_df) January 30, 2025

Nolen signed up in Ole Miss in 2022 after being appointed national defensive player of the year. USA TODAY had it evaluated as recruit n ° 1 in the country. Rivals.com had it at n ° 2, behind Travis Hunter.

When you hear the term “first step speed”, it is easily the most impressive aspect of Nolen’s game. It alone makes him first -round hope.

After three seasons and 35 games with the rebels, Nolen had 11.5 bags at university. But at only 21, his best football is probably still long before him. At 6 feet 3 inches and 293 pounds, it is the ideal size for the position. In this screening report, he makes a professional comparison with Ed Oliver, an excellent defensive line player for the Buffalo Bills.

Nolen is a coach athlete who could become a strong force in the NFL. If the broncos were forced to detach themselves from a high -level offensive player in the first round, it could be an excellent choice of safety net.
